OVERVIEW The Gleeman Guild is a mainly role playing guild. If you MUD because you want to level, PK, and kick some ass, then this is probably not the guild for you. However, if you enjoy role playing then this is the guild for you! We encourage our members to take an active role in starting role playing opportunities as well as participating in other people's role playing. Guild members are expected to RP and guild level advancement is based on your role playing abilities. This being said, there are very few other rules. We believe that members should have a wide degree of freedom in deciding what they want to do. Note: Despite our name, we do not discriminate against gender when recruiting for our guild. Anyone who is not a trolloc is more than welcome to join our guild.
The Gleeman guild is not a formal organization. The wandering nature of the Gleeman and Bard make organizing a formal institution hard, if not impossible. Rather, the guild is an brotherhood of sorts that helps out fellow members in the same trade. Outstanding members are recognized by the community as a whole and gain prestige through their abilities to entertain. However, there are a few times that Gleemen from all over the world gather. One is the coronation of a new Grand Gleeman or a Sage. The other is the Rites of Passage when apprentices graduate and are recognized as Bards and accepted into the community. During this event, elder Gleeman also review the past year and raise outstanding Master Bards to the ranks of Gleeman. Loremasters, on the other hand, do not pass through this rite, instead they are appointed by Sages from the ranks of Master Gleeman. The Rite of Passage often involves apprentices showing off their storytelling abilities and contributing an original piece of work to the Gleeman collection of stories and tales. For Master Bards who are being raised to Gleeman, they often sing songs and donate a copy of their travel logs or suitable substitute.
The most valuable
possession of the guild is their collection of myths, legends, prophecies, and folk tales
that are compiled into hefty volumes. These volumes contain the knowledge and lore
of generations of Gleeman. It is the responsibility of the Sages to keep these
volumes in order and to replace or repair old tomes that have corroded with the passage of
time. They are often assisted by Loremasters whose tasks often include compiling new
tomes from the stories submitted and gathered by Gleemen and Bards. The travelogues
of these individuals often find their way into the Histories tomes and are very useful
sources of historical information. The collection resides in a secret hidden
place. No one but the Grand Gleeman, Sages, and top Loremasters know of this
place. Because of the heftiness of these tomes, the caretakers of the tomes lead
often sedentary lives. They have given up the wandering ways that a Gleeman loves to
take care of these tomes. These caretakers are revered in the Gleeman community for
this sacrifice that they make.
