The Beginning

If you have never interacted on a MUD before, you will find that learning the basics is a little time consuming, but well worth the time investment.  If you type 'help' you will be given a list of basic MUD commands used in movement, combat, etc.  If you are a newbie, PLEASE GO TO THE MUD SCHOOL, work through it and READ all the signs by typing LOOK SIGN  To determine is a sign is in a room, and to read a room description, simply type LOOK.

When you first log your character on, information about your character information will be set at the default settings  The chart below describes these settings.  You may toggle these on and off simply by typing the name of the action.  HELP AUTO will define these actions for you.  You may find a numerical prompt easier to read than a graphical prompt.  To change your prompt, type NUMBER, not PROMPT.

Auto-Commands

When playing on TLS there are certain things that can be utilized  automatically if set properly. The following is a list of all the commands and what they do:

autoassist : This, when set to ON, will have your character assist in any battle of which you are grouped into. This prevents you from having to type <assist Character Name> every time a battle occurs.
Defaults: OFF

autoexit : This, when set to ON, shows you all available exits in the current room you are in.
Defaults: OFF

autogold : This, when set to ON, removes all gold on a corpse after a successful battle.
Defaults: OFF

autoloot : This, when set to ON, removes all items, including gold, from a corpse after a successful battle.
Defaults: OFF

autosac : This, when set to ON, automatically sacrifices a corpse after a successful battle.
Defaults: OFF

autosplit : This, when set to ON, automatically splits the gold from a corpse amongst the group after a successful battle.
Defaults: OFF

autotie :  This, when set to ON, automatically ties any weave cast. (Channellers Only)
Defaults: OFF

Communication on the MUD

Players communicate with each other on TLS through a variety of channels, some IC (In Character)  and others OOC (Out of Character).  When you are validated, all of these channels are activated.  Unvalidated players only have access to SAY, TELL and PRAY.

NOTE: There are some rules for some of the channels. While we believe in free speech, and that everyone is entitled to their opinion, we ask that some common sense be used. The one main rule is that when using a public channel, refrain from language that could offend other people that will hear what you have to say. Even on private channels you should monitor your language.

Say
A say is used when you want all the people that are currently in the room with you to hear what you have to say. Considered a public channel.
Syntax - say <what you want to say> or ' <what you want to say>

Tell
You use tells for private, one on one conversations. Only the person you send a tell to will hear what you have to say. Not considered a public channel. Can not be used when the person you want to talk to is in the same room.
Syntax - tell <character name> <what you want to say> or t <character name> <what you want to say>

Mutter
Mutter is like a whisper. When a tell can not be used because you are in the same room with the person, use mutter for a private conversation. However, unlike tells, there is a chance that anyone else in the room with you may hear part of your conversation. Like whispering, you can't always keep people from hearing what you have to say.  This is considered a public channel.
Syntax - mutter <character name> <what you want to say> or mut <character name> <what you want to say>

Reply
Reply is used to respond to a tell. When someone sends you a tell, and you want to reply without the need of typing their name (ie-A Tell), or you receive a tell from someone that is hidden well or invisible, a "someone" will appear where their name would be, you can use this command. However, if, say, Joe Smith sends you a tell, and you use reply to answer him, but just before you send the command to TLS., Bubba sends you a tell your reply meant for JoeSmith will end up going to Bubba instead. In other words, a reply goes to the person who most recently sent you a tell. Reply does not need a name to work.
Syntax-  reply <what you want to say> or r <what you want to say>

Yell
TLS is made up of many "areas". When you are within an area, and you use the yell command, everyone in that area will hear what you have to say. You can use this channel to see if anyone is in the area you are about to explore (provided that they answer back if someone is in there), or just to announce your presence in the area. This is considered a public channel.
Syntax - yell <what you want to yell>

Guildtalk/Subguildtalk
Guild talk and subguild talk are both exactly the same thing, but one deals with your guild channel and the other your subguild channel. Only people who are in your guild will hear any thing you have to say to your guild, and the same applies to your subguild.  Only those in your subguild will hear what you have to say there. Both are considered public channels.
Syntax - gdt <what you want to say> for guild and sgt <what you want to say> for subguild.

Racetalk
Racetalk allows you to talk to other people of your race type. If you are Domani, then only Domani will hear this channel. If you are Seanchan, then only Seanchan will hear this channel and so forth. This is considered a public channel.
Syntax - rt <what you want to say>

Darkfriendtalk
Even though they are considered the lowest of the low, despised by many, and feared by more, even DarkFriends (or DFs) need a way to communicate with each other and any ForSaken (or FS) that may be on at the time. This channel is how they do it. This channel uses alias names only so that DFs can remain anonymous, even to each other. Only those that are "Chosen" (another name for the ForSaken) may know who every one is (See the guild section title DarkFriend). Considered a public channel.
Syntax - dft <what you want to say>

OOC
On those days when you need to talk about Real Life (or RL) problems, or you just are not up to RolePlaying, you use this channel to talk about it. OOC stands for Out Of Character. That lets people know that what you are talking about has nothing to do with your character, the guild you are in, etc etc.. Considered a public channel
Syntax - ooc <what you want to say>

Gossip
Gossip is a good place for just that, gossiping. This channel is mainly used for In Character (or IC) events that you want to share with the whole MUD at one given time. Good for making public announcements. Considered a public channel.
Syntax - gossip <what you want to say> or go <what you want to say> or . <what you want to say>

Auction
If have an item you want to sell, or are looking for an item that you would like to buy, this would be the channel you want to use. Just like it's namesake, people auction off the item to the highest bidder or for trade or for whatever. There are no real rules on how to auction off your item or for buying an item. That's left between the person selling and the person buying. Considered a public channel.
Syntax - auction <what you want to say> or au <what you want to say>

Question/Answer
This, like OOC, is an Out Of Character channel 99% of the time. Here is where you can ask the entire MUD a question, or answer someone else who asked a question. This is a good channel for trying to find a place, or to try and get help with something that has just stumped you. Considered a public channel.
Syntax - question <what you want to ask> or q <what you want to ask>
Syntax - answer <your answer to someones question> or an <your answer to someones question>

Miniontalk
Minion is a channel meant for you and a select few. It runs similar to a guild channel and a tell. Someone has to start the minion (minion <your char name>) then join others to it (minion <char name>). That will get the channel started. The minion channel will be named after whom ever starts the minion. I.e., - If <Bleys> starts a minion, then joins Masika to it, then minion channel would be named [Bleys].
Syntax - minion <your name> to start a minion channel
minion <char name> to join someone else to the minion
mdt <what you want to say> or mtalk <what you want to say> to talk on the channel.
mbanish <your name> to remove the minion channel provided that you started the channel.
Only the minion leader (the person who started the channel) can mbanish.

Reading and writing notes

Note writing is a CRITICAL ELEMENT in RP.  The note system on the MUD is designed to let people leave "notes" or "letters" to select people, or announcements to the entire MUD. Below is a complete listing of how to use notes on the MUD.  Be sure to read the section about posting notes if you are a DarkFriend ( DF) so as not to give away you real name in the posted note.

Reading notes
Note Show
Displays a bulletin board of all the note areas and postings in each area.
Syntax - note show

Note area
For changing the area that you want to read, list or post to.  Note areas include:

Public  Notes addressed to everyone and general in contact.
News Announcement about RP opportunities or event such as a Coronation for the Queen of Andor or a Costume Ball.
Ideas The place to put any suggestions you have for the mud. Please write these notes in a positive, productive tone.
Guild Where guild notes are posted.  These include rp engagement, recruiting announcements, etc.
Stories Where players post:  WoT related stories, stories about how they discovered they could touch the True Source, etc.
Announcements The IMMORTAL board where you will find announcements about code changes, new rules, etc.
Permanent  Only post here if you want the note to be permanent.

Syntax- note area <area name>

Used in conjunction with "note list".
Syntax - note or note read <note number>

Note remove
Removes a note that you wrote or are the target of. If you wrote a note and posted it, then decided that you do not want it posted, you need to get a "note list from <your char name>", find the note in question, then type "note remove <note number>" and that will remove it from the notes.
Syntax - note remove <note number>

Note adjust
This command temporarily takes back a posted note to be editted. If you noticed mistakes, bad formating, what ever, you can use "note adjust" to fix the note. This will only work on notes that you have written. You can note adjust notes posted by other people.
Syntax- note adjust <note number>

Acquiring Items

There will be times when you need to visit a shop for one item or another. The M.U.D. has a variety shops for different items. There are bakers for
bread type items when you need food, or butchers for meats. Grocer shops for items such as small backpacks, lanterns and the like items. Weapon smiths for weapons, armories for armor and so on. It's up to you to find these shops or to gain help from other players to locate them.

When one of these shops is found, there are two commands you need to know in order to utilize the shop. The first command is list, the other is buy. To find out what items the shop carries use the list command. This command will show you all items for sale, what level you need to be in order to use the item, and how much the item will cost you to purchase it. Buy is just that, it allows you to buy the item you want, provided you have enough money and that you are the appropriate level for that item.
Syntax- list (list the items that the merchant has for sale)
buy <item> or for multiple items buy <#>< item>

Using Socials

Socials are used for non-physical interaction with other players on the M.U.D..
There are two ways of doing a social. One is by using the pre-programmed socials
that are in the M.U.D., and the other is to use what is called an Emote (See Emote
below). To use a pre-programmed social, all you need to do is type the name of the
social by itself, or, if you intend it to be aimed at another player, type the name of
the social, then the name of the player. If you wanted to bow to a room full of people,
then type the word "bow". If you wanted to bow to Bubba, type "bow bubba" and
you will bow only to him. Not all socials can be directed at another player, but,
about 99% of them can be. The section listed below Emote is a complete list of
all the socials that have been pre-programmed into the M.U.D.

Syntax- <social name> or <social name> <character name>

Emote
An emote is the same thing as a social, with one major difference. You program
what you want it to do/say. This is a one time only kind of programming. Once you
have sent the command to the M.U.D., thats it. If you want to use this emote again,
you need to resend it either by typing it again, or triggers/aliases if you are using
a M.U.D. client program like zMUD, TinTin(+/++), gMUD, etc. etc.. If you wanted
to RP that you walk up to someone, look them up and down, then smile at them, you
could do something like "emote walks up to <character name>, looking them over
closely, then smiles." What you have your emote do is completely up to you. Be aware
that the M.U.D.s rules governing language and harassment over talking channels also
governs emotes. Use common sense when using emotes.

Syntax- emote <what you want it to say/do> or , <what you want it to say/do>

Commands are used to do perform certain tasks within the M.U.D. The following is a current list of commands available on TLS for you to use. Please keep in mind that as the M.U.D. grows more commands will become available, so check back from time to time to see if any new commands have been added. To use a command, most of them all you have to do is type the command without any extra modifiers. While others need extra input to complete the command.
