Every one has their own preference of MUDDING client to use. Here are a few that
you can try out, with their respective reviews from the pros.zMud -- zMUD is a Winsock MUD/Telnet client for
PC/Windows. This GUI client supports multiple character windows
(multiplaying),
aliases, triggers with complex pattern matching, macro keys, variables, speedwalking,
automatic map
generation,
graphical buttons, extensive built-in and user-defined functions, ANSI color, VT100
support, word wrapping,
alarms, and
online help. It is fully customizable and 90 percent compatible with TinTin++ clients. It
is also compatible with
proxy servers and
firewalls. This evaluation version is good for 30 days
User Opinions from Download.com
"Excellent MUD Program"
This program is very easy to use of both beginner and expert users. 30 trials is too
short, but the registration fee is quite low. I also like the fact that the program is not
crippled during the evaluation. Zugg Software has a winner here.
"The Best MUD connector out there!"
The thirty (30) day trial is too short for people that don't want to pay. Great stability
with the Features and connections. Thank god they have built in mud ips. This is the best
there is.
Pueblo -- With its release of the
Pueblo multimedia MUD client, Chaco has made it possible for MUDs
to
create immersive virtual worlds, with sound, hypertext, 2D and 3D graphics. You can create
an
avatar (a 3D image of yourself), wander around a virtual space chatting with people, and
click
on
doors to go places. With minor modifications, any MUD can incorporate these new
media types.
Chaco's
Pueblo protocol is well-documented from the Pueblo Help menu item. As of May 1996,
more
than
20 MUD servers support the Pueblo protocol and more are on the way. There are several MUD
server
source bases. Three of these, Mux, TinyMUSH and TeenyMUD, now provide built-in support
for
Pueblo. That means that new and upgraded worlds using these servers will automatically be
Pueblo
enhanced!
The
Pueblo internet client is a multimedia virtual community client which works with existing
MUDs and media formats.
Pueblo
can display 2D (GIF, JPEG, BMP) and 3D graphics (VRML), music (MIDI), audio (WAV),
hypertext (HTML),
and
plain text. Pueblo is free for non-commercial use
User Opinons from the Pueblo Webpage
"This is the fastest multimedia net.client
I've seen, web interface
and all. In the time it takes for Netscape to load up I can be
online with Pueblo and roaming around with time to spare."
"A text environment is convenient and
focused, but a well-rounded
curriculum requires graphics and sound. Now our math and natural
science instructors have a revolutionary new tool to show equations,
diagrams, and even animated models."
"Pueblo's really cool because of its
versatility...you can do everything
from just changing the font sizes and colors to a completely interactive
3-d world using VRML, and everything in between."
Gmud --
It is smaller than zMud, it seems to have a few less options and things
that it can do. But it can do triggers, variables, alias, macro buttons,
copy, paste and other things like that. It's not very pretty and doesn't
have fancy decorations like zMud has. The best thing about it is Gmud is
faster. It has been recommended by everyone that I have spoken to, and the
best thing is it's freeware.
